Hello Kettle, I’m The New Pot On The Fire…
By now, just about every media outlet in the world has decided the John Edwards affair is big news—but most are taking his explanations at face value…
What they haven’t done yet is look at a lot of the hypocrisy involved.
Today, we’ve got a giant, sooty pot sitting on the fire next to a pretty blackened kettle.
Let’s recall 1998, when Bill Clinton was forced to admit the sordid details of his involvement with Monica Lewinsky…
Well, back then, John Edwards sounded off on it..
He was quoted in the Raleigh N.C. News And Observer as saying:
“I think this President has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen.”
Now, let’s zip ahead a few years. Here’s a man seeking the same office, engaging in a similar breathtakingly disrespectful act against his very ill wife and kids.
Edwards was running for the presidency at the time of his self-admitted affair.
Had the cards played out differently—he’d be sitting where Barack Obama is now.
And there he’d be—just weeks before the convention— trying to explain why his actions were any less different than Bill Clinton’s disrespect for the moral dimensions of leadership.
Plus, he wanted to be president—but was willing to lie and lie and lie to cover up his inappropriate actions.
If he’d lie about that—what else would he lie to the public about?
He’s said on NightLine that he’d be willing to take a paternity test.
But, the most coincidental thing soon happened there after.
His mistress says she’s too private a person and refuses to take a participate in a paternity test, as you can read here..
Edwards explanation for going to the hotel where he was caught was that he was trying to persuade his mistress NOT to tell the story.
Now—she suddenly says NO PATERNITY test.
Meanwhile, the mistress continues to live in expensive housing thanks to Edwards supporter Fred Baron who, as you can read here, says he decided on his own to help the poor girl—without Edwards knowledge.
So, with all the loose ends all tied up, do you think this story will slowly ride off into the sunset?
By lying so publicly and repeatedly before confessing, John Edwards has waved a red cape in front of the media bull—and I won’t be surprised if the bull doesn’t gore Edwards before it’s all over.
