Bits & Pieces, Odds & Ends Version13.0
There’s a lot of little things bugging me today— so here are a few bits of things that are getting under my skin…
TAXING OUR PATIENCE….
Today is the deadline for filing income tax…
And…As the government has been reminding us for weeks now—in order to get your “economic stimulus” payment you’ve gotta file a tax return.
Then they’ll begin processing the check—or direct deposit payment..
Here’s what I don’t understand…
The government has no trouble taking money AWAY from us in our paychecks —instantly— every week..
Once congress and the president approved “stimulus” why couldn’t the IRS just automatically leave whatever amount you are owed RIGHT in your paycheck. Don’t deduct the $600, $1500 or whatever the amount is supposed to be coming to you.
Seems pretty simple to me. But then again, were dealing with bureaucrats.
Besides, the economy is so rocky now—by the time we all get the stimulus, it won’t help much…
A PAIN IN THE GAS….
Meanwhile, GOP presidential hopeful John McCain is calling on his fellow lawmakers in Washington to temporarily suspend the Federal gas tax of 18.4 cents a gallon..
He’d like them to do this in time for the summer-time driving season between Memorial and Labor days.
It’s a nice idea—but, do you think it’s going anywhere?
First off, do you think a DEMOCRATICALLY controlled congress will do something to help a REPUBLICAN presidential candidate ?
And if the Congress DID decide to do it—it’d take so long for them to get it approved, it’d likely be December before it happened.
(Remember how long it took between concept, approval and delivery of our economic stimulus bucks?)
Besides, the revenue lost from the gas tax during those months is said to be into he neighborhood of 10-BILLION dollars…
Do ya think the government will let that shortfall go uncollected?
I’m betting if the gas tax is suspended, some other tax will be increased to make up for it.
And knowing Washington, once they get their hands on that money—that new increase will NEVER go away…
