If It Ain’t Brokered, Don’t Fix It…
It wasn’t that long ago the pundits were talking about a brokered conventions…
With so many candidates running, and with so many choices, the conventional wisdom was that they’d be such division among voters, the conventions would become the last battleground.
Now, as we head to Super Tuesday, the field has winnowed down considerably.
And for both Democrats and Republicans, there are candidates with clear differences..
On the republican side, we’ve got John McCain…. Considered by some more conservative members of the GOP to be too liberal in many of his views—He stands in sharp contrast to Mitt Romney… The former Massachusetts governor has youth, his business experience and his “outsider” status as some of his advantages. Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee is still hanging in there—touting his admiration for a national sales tax—or so-called “Fair Tax”—as one of the centerpieces of his campaign.
On the democratic side, we’ve got a situation similar to McCain/Romney between Hillary and Barack Obama….She touts her experience and connections as part of the political establishment as reasons why she’s the best. And Obama uses his youth, his relative “outsider” status and his ability to be an agent of change to rally voters around him…
It’s quite possible that after Super Tuesday, this could become a one-on-one contest for both sides…
We’ll have to let the political stew cook a little more—and see what we can serve up next week.
