A Weighty Issue…
The day after Thanksgiving marks the start of the holiday selling season—the so-called “Black Friday” when retailers anticipate making enough profits to get them out of the red financially.
But, the day after Thanksgiving could also be known as “Fat Friday” because it marks the start of a holiday food bingeing period that tends to help us get thicker around the middle.
Experts from the National Institutes of Health are quoted in this story as saying that the average American puts on an extra pound by the time the Holiday eating period ends. I guess I’m better than average—because I think I put on AT LEAST an extra 5 pounds of pudge every holiday period.
If this trend keeps up, by the end of the decade, I’ll be able to rent myself out to Goodyear and fly over football stadiums and parades.
It’s enough to make you lose some sleep… But DON’T—especially—if you’re a woman and trying to lose a few extra pounds brought on by pregnancy. Experts say losing sleep is exactly what you shouldn’t do…..
This story, linked here, claims that researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health have found women who don’t get a lot of sleep can pick up as much as 11 POUNDS of extra weight!
Apparently sleep deprivation “causes hormonal changes that stimulate the appetite.”
And don’t think you can diet your way out of this weight mess… This link here claims everything you know about diets is wrong.
Among the claims:
> Low fat foods don’t work
>Low calorie diets don’t work
> Low carb diets don’t work.
It says eating MORE often is the key to weight loss…
GREAT! Just what I need to strengthen my willpower!
This holiday season, there’s a crew of us here at NBC-17 who are determined to beat this bulging belly syndrome.
We’ve got a contest going to see who can get the closest to their ideal body weight between now and the new year.
And, I’m determined to win this thing—And, I’ll get to my ideal body weight without dropping a pound.
You see…I’ll win it by growing taller instead!
