Stepping Off The Soapbox….

Yesterday’s post about rationing water because of the drought drew an interesting response from one of our readers…

Altho his remarks and my reply are in the comment section for that day’s posting—I thought his points deserved wider exposure, in an undiluted form without me getting in the last word…

And since I get the soapbox 5 days a week, it seemed only right to step off the the box for a minute and let reader “Chris” have his say…

(After all this is a “talk back” forum!)

Personally I think rationing is a bit of overkill at this point because everyone has differing circumstances in their household.

For example, I have a new baby, so rationing is difficult when clothes and diapers, etc need washing nearly every day. But for someone else, running the washer once a week may be feasible.

I also plan on selling my home next spring, so a little grass in the yard would be preferable to a slab of dirt; most buyers aren’t enticed by a crappy lawn. So while I do actively conserve, I think rationing is too strict at this point.

Likewise the ‘fear-mongering’ of X days of water left is sensationalist journalism at its best. Specifically, the X days left doesn’t account for the base reservoir that the city keeps on hand.

The X days merely represents how long before we’re only left with that base reservoir. And that should be plenty sufficient to last a good while. Plus, there is always water that can be purchased or drilled for.

Perhaps the city should look into those options with all the local/state taxes we pay before burdening us citizens with extreme rationing.

That’s Chris’s view…we welcome yours…

We’re going to lighten it up tomorrow…

We’ve all had those annoying phone calls from telemarketers who manage to bother us at just the wrong moment in time…

In Friday’s posting, we’ll talk about getting even instead of annoyed.. Plus, a few other little surprises….

That’s next on BETWEEN the LINES...
